Commonwealth Games – Netball

It’s not ‘yet’ and Olympic sport, but tonight I’ve been playing mixed Netball.

Could be the next challenge – every sport in the Commonwealth Games, although it’s not as simple as the Olympic sport programme as the host city has the right to select certain sports.

Now each candidate city looking to host a Commonwealth Games must include a minimum of 10 core sports on their Programme: Aquatics (Swimming), Athletics, Badminton, Boxing (Men) with an option to add Women’s events, Hockey (Men & Women), Lawn Bowls, Netball (Women), Rugby Sevens (Men) with an option to add Women’s Sevens, Squash and Weightlifting.

They can then include up to an additional 7 from a list of optional sports/disciplines: Archery, Basketball (Men & Women), Beach Volleyball (Men & Women), Canoeing, Cycling (Road and/or Mountain Bike and/or Track), Diving (as part of Aquatics), Gymnastics (Artistic and/or Rhythmic), Judo, Open Water Swimming (as part of Aquatics), Rowing, Sailing, Shooting (Clay Target and/or Fullbore and/or Pistol & Small Bore), Softball (Men & Women), Synchronised Swimming (as part of Aquatics), Table Tennis, Tennis, Tenpin Bowling, Taekwondo, Triathlon and Wrestling.

Although looking at the list (in addition to Netball), I’d only need to add Squash, Tenpin Bowling, Softball and Lawn Bowls.

36th, 37th, 38th & 39th Olympic challenges completed – Equestrian (Dressage, Jumping & Eventing) and Modern Pentathlon

For the past couple months I’ve been learning to horse ride at Hewshott Farm Stables in Liphook. It’s been great fun and they’ve helped me achieve 4 of my Olympic challenges (Dressage, Show Jumping, Modern Pentathlon and Eventing). Special thanks to my amazing parents for arranging the lessons, taking photos and video. I’ve now completed 39 out of my 41 Olympic challenges. Just 2 more to go (Artistic and Rhythmic Gymnastics), which will be completed on 25th June. I’ve been raising money for charity since the start of the challenge, currently for Get Kids Going, which is a National charity which gives disabled children and young people – up to the age of 26 yrs – the wonderful opportunity of participating in sport. Please follow the charity link to donate, any support is greatly appreciated!

Ealing Eagles 10k

For the past few months I’ve been involved in organising our clubs annual 10k race in Gunnersbury Park, as Deputy Race Director.

Despite the extremely hot conditions, we put on a very successful race with 575 runners taking part on the day.
