3rd challenge completed – Handball

Completed the third of my challenges today by taking part in a mini friendly tournament for Ruislip Men III at the Sportshouse in East London. I’ve been training with the Eagles for the past few weeks and this was the first opportunity to play in a full match.

Our first game against Brunel University. Unfortunately our inexperience as a team showed and we lost the game 17-3. I also managed to receive 2 yellow cards for apparent misdemeanors. I’m still not sure what I did wrong, so might have to read up on the rules a bit more before the next game.

The second game was against Great Dane Handball Club. Although slightly closer, we still lost the game 10-6.

Despite the losses it was a fun day all round and hopefully we will have more success next time round.

So looks like the next sport on my list is Handball. I emailed the Ruislip Eagles Handball Club a few days ago and they invited me to join their Tuesday night beginners session.

I was really impressed with the coaching and the enthusiasm of the other players. I’m looking forward to attending a few more sessions and hopefully play in a game or two.

The Team Sports

For these sports I will be required to take part in a organised competitive match. The challenge for these events will be to persuade the relevant local team to allow me to play for them. I have played beach volleyball and water polo on holiday and I played hockey, indoor volleyball and basketball on the odd occasion at school. Rugby and handball are completely new sports for me, although I am a keen rugby fan.
