Managed to fit in some clay pigeon shooting yesterday evening. Really enjoyed it, although I’ve got some serious bruises today. Shooting was the first Olympic challenge I completed, all the way back in December 2012!
After successfully negotiating my horse ‘Buddy’ over a minor fence today at Hewshott Farm Stables, I am now able to say that I’ve completed every discipline of the Modern Pentathlon and in doing soon, I have displayed the ultimate test of fitness, courage and skill. (quote: pentathlongb)
- Fencing (completed 23rd Aug, 2013)
- Swimming (completed 23rd Mar, 2013)
- Pistol Shooting (completed 2nd Dec, 2012)
- Cross-Country Run (completed 26th Oct, 2014)
- Show jumping (completed 14th May, 2016)
I have completed the first of my Rio 2016 Olympic challenges.
In the morning of the first Sunday of each month Ham and Petersham Rifle and Pistol Club is open to non members to come down and try shooting. So today in the freezing cold conditions, Rhian and I went to the club to have a go shooting Black Powder Revolvers and Rifles. Most boyfriends probably would have chosen flowers, chocolates and a posh meal out to celebrate their 4 year anniversary with their girlfriend, but I thought firing a few guns would more far more exciting and definitely more memorable.
I had a little bit of a slow start and it pains me to say that Rhian came out on top with the Revolver. With my pride slightly dented I decided that I needed to up my game on the Rifle range. 30 minutes later, I had my revenge. No, I didn’t shoot her, but I performed considerably better with the majority of my shots hitting the target.
We had a really enjoyable day and a big thank you to everyone at the shooting club for making us feel welcome.
The challenge is to learn one or more of the events.
